Digging out Daffodils

Afternoon all,

I've been trying to dig out some rather garish daffodils from under my beech hedge (going to replace them with some paler, dainty varities from another border). The trouble is they are some 40cm deep in clay soil with beech roots.

I reckon I got a good 75-80% bulb clear but for those that were irretrievable will they just keep coming back? - will taking their foliage off fairly deeply beneath the soil be enough to keep weakening them and eventually kill them?

Yes, a plant can't live for long without leaves

Like Nutcutlet says; yes. If you keep hacking the leafs off you'll basically starve the plant and thus snuffs it.
