oak-leafed-hydrangea

Hi. I have an oak leafed hydrangea which has been lovely. Can anyone please tell me when I should prune it and by how much? Also, if I wanted to move it of take cuttings when would be a good time?

Thanks. Hope someone can help.

Hi Pas2, I tend not to prune hydrangeas until late winter/early spring, just remove dead heads and over long stems - dont go too mad or you'll get no flowers in the following summer.

Hydrangea quercifolia doesn't need a lot of pruning, just remove dead or rough looking bits where necessary. It's a well shaped shrub not like the mopheads. not something to cut back every year.

Thanks for that. I need to give it a bit of a prune. Because of where it's situated it can't get any bigger than it is now, that's why I toyed witht the idea of moving it. What about cuttings? There are some nice looking non-flowering shoots there I could take if it's the right time?

I'd give it a try. do some hardwood ones later if it doesn't work
