Pruning

I have a fairly large Fuchsia Magellania Versicolour in a pot - when do I prune, do I need to prune and if so how far back do I cut? Thank you

Depends where you live Celia, If you are in a warm area its OK  but I never prune mine until well into March, after the new buds have started to show. Then they are right off almost to the ground. Its very cold here at the moment, lots of morning frosts and frozen water.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Thanks Lyn,

I will  wait although we have had frosts here it's not bad in West Sussex

My fuchsia magellanica was starting to produce leaves until this week when the sharp frost killed most of them off, so I would wait until the weather warms up a bit and be guided by the plant, pruning low down above outward facing strong buds.
