Well I ended up taking the offer of subscribing to GW magazine for £25. Once the annual direct debit has been set up I shall contact Immediate Media and cancel any future direct debits.

I was of the same opinion a few years ago, after a while everything gets repeated and so I cancelled. But at £2 per issue I thought id subscribe again just for one year.

Sorry leadfarmer I didn't see your reply there.

its no problem if you do online banking, jus go into your account and cancel it. If you don't, then I am not sure, it's usually a battle to do that.

I wouldn't buy the magazine, its only that I get it free, there are so many contradictions, Monty and Titchmarsh seem to always have to say something opposite to the other one, they also recommend the most expensive plants, quite out of reach of most people, but it's good for beginners, just read it and then decide if it's right for you. You can always change your sowing times/planting out times etc to suit your own climate and area you live.  They just give you a rough guide.

A magazine cannot possible give info set in stone, like one size fits all, it doesn't.

if Monty and Titchmarsh say the opposite things, it's simple: go with Titchmarsh.

I think Christopher Lloyd is beyond the reach of mortal gardeners..........

I too would go with AT rather than MD when taking advice based purely on my experience with them and a brief comparison of their horticultural credentials for anyone in doubt.

I also prefer The Garden which come free with an RHS subscription - more detail, more varied, less repetitive.

However, when I was setting off down the path of becoming a keen gardener I did learn loads from both GW on TV and GW magazine but that was back in the day with Geoff H at the helm - great knowledge, great communicator and understood the aspirations and budgets of beginners and experienced gardeners and catered for a variety of budgets and garden sizes.
