Fast Growing climber plant

image

Hey all, I have this really invasive plant which was already well established when I moved in, it is wrapped around the fence, the hedgerows and other plants and has started making it's way across the border as well, What is it, is it damaging and how much of an ache is going to be to remove?

Thanks, I always thought Ivy was all green leaves, hence why I asked. Is it worth trying to find out where the roots are, this stuff is everywhere....

It roots down where it spreads over the ground. It's a bit of a pain to untangle from fences and if it's been there a long time the original root will be quite big. But compared to some plants it's easy to get rid of. Yes, find the root, you couldget it ground out if it's too big to dig

Fancy ivy cultivars have different coloured leaves and different shapes.

It is a very attractive background plant, brings a bit of brightness to shady corners and blocks out weeds.  I would keep some of it, pot up some to give to my local hospice shop once well rooted and be grateful to have a plant which grows so well in areas most plants struggle to thrive.

Hi Hostafan1, I just checked RHS but it doesn't seem to have any of the flowers mentioned.

Esspee, now I have only just moved into the house so I can't be certain, but this stuff is growing everywhere and it has completely encapsulated the hedge and seems to be causing damage, I don't dislike the plant at all but I spent some time this weekend in my elderly neighbours garden removing around 14 bin bags of this plant as it had invaded her garden over the past summer.

It's Ok unless it gets out of hand and it sounds like yours hasimage

Only the mature (non cliinging) growth of any ivy will get the flowers.
