Hosta, we all know you have your reasons for feeling this antipathy for Monty, as you explained it here once before: you went for the GW job but the BBC gave it to him, not to you.
You cannot hate the person who "beat" you. It's rather illogical, I think; for he wasn't the one who more or less said to you, "I don't think you're good enough." It was the decision of those who represented the BBC.
I hate to have to say it, because, apart from the subject of Monty, you're most logical, helpful and generous, but this obsessive antipathy smacks of envy. I think it would, probably, be best for you if you tried to let it go.
As for "sycophantic", not really an apt word. Those who like Monty and say so do it because, for various reasons, they actually do, not because they stand to gain anything.
Of course, nobody can be all things to all men. Some people like him and some people don't. That's to be expected; but, when an overt antipathy becomes an obsession, that's a tad worrying??
And, as my grandmother used to say, "silence speaks louder than words..."

As usual, so relaxed, bless him, I gather hes "marmite"
"marmite" indeed.
I find the ongoing sycophantic hagiography vomit inducing.
What does that mean in "english money" Hostafan 1?

Told you, he was Marmite!!!!!!
Danae, sorry ,but you're wrong on more than one count.
I applied when MD left, NOT before he came back. So he didn't " beat " me. If anyone " beat" me , it was Toby Buckland, a well deserved winner.
Secondly , I don't " hate" him. or anyone else for that matter.
Furthermore, I have no " obsession" on the matter.
Forgive me, but I am allowed to have a contrary opinion without being accused of hatred and being obsessed.
I'm enjoying this series so far. Monty is getting his hands dirty too, and had a mouthful of earth from the green roof in that little yard!
