School tank of frog spawn is now a mass of tiny, wriggling tadpoles.

  • Can anyone tell me how to get frogs or toads in my new small garden? No ponds nearby, don't think neighbours have them. i have a small pond/container at ground level but no sign of life ---yet?

  • We got our first frogspawn from a kind friend who had a surplus - the frogs leave the pond after spawning and life under courgette or other big, damp leaves during the summer and return to the pond early each year to spawn again. Newts and water snails also came view friends - however if you are lucky they will just "find" the pond in due course.

None in mine yet, West Devon. Still early, it's very cold here.

Nothing in ours yet (South Yorkshire). I have my bucket ready to rescue (the fish find it most tempting).

As for how to attract frogs to a pond; google earth shows no ponds anywhere near ours and the neighbours told me they can't remember any ponds being filled in. Yet they soon found ours! Some nights you go out and dare not move there are so many frogs leaping along the pavement. Patience is key!

I may pop up and get some Hosta, if I don't get any.
