Moving a camelia

in Plants
Hi guys my offspring have a beautiful mature Camilla that is going to be chopped down as they want a blank garden
Has anyone successful y moved one I'm sure it is about 10 years old , it's over 6foot tall and around similar width when it blooms the flowers are two different colours so perhaps there are two plants but this is not clear by looking at the stems . I tried cuttings but have had no success and they are not wanting to wait for me to try again . They are good kids but hate gardening

Yes I have, I was digging the foundations for a conservatory
a 6' tall Camellia was in the way, as the customer did'nt want it I brought it home were it has grown well.
No problem primrosecottage
claim it.
Primrose, they aren't to bad to move, usual procedure, as much root ball as possible water in well, feed etc. its best done after flowering but if they can't wait do it as soon as you can they settle well.
Moved mine when I moved house with no problems.
That's wonderful
should I water it well before trying to lift it and what mulching should I put in the new hole
I'm sure yours will be successful Verdun I'll try and channel some of your expertise

Thanks Verdun
will tackle it this Saturday when I've got the use of a van. Will try and prep it's going into hole in between the storms threatened for next couple of days so can check it's not going into a sump
Will let you know on progress
Sorry to jump on your question Primrose but how easy would it be to move a Camellia that's against a fence. It's the same size as Primrose's but the stem is about 6" dia at soil level. My neighbour was talking about moving it (I think she's hoping I'll offer to help) but I can't imagine how you'd get the rootball out with the fence in the way?
Very useful information above but could anyone please tell me if they have tried moving a mature camelia into a large planter? I really need to do this in order to transport it to my new home in a couple of months time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
