Plenty of leaf mould - they're woodland plants.  And wood ash (for potash) from year 2 onwards.

  • gryphon - I planted autumn fruiting canes in late April two years ago. I'd bought them in Feb, gave them a temporary home in 12" pots until I got my fruit cage ready. Having not grown them before and being late getting them in, I was relieved that 8 out of 9 canes sprouted. The crop was incredibly heavy and perfect (not a single maggot!), so I think you should have absolutely no problems!

  • once i do get round to planting, what compost should i be thinking of mixing the soil with. When i planted the blueberries last year it was Ericaceous i used.

Mix in plenty of garden compost and/or leaf mould.  They like it slightly acidic but not as strongly as blueberries.
