Common Box

Hello!

I have 5 box balls and 4 of them look more like 'box doughnuts' as the stems in the middle keep snapping off leaving gaping holes in the plant.  I thought it was next doors kids at first but they have moved out and it's still happening! Has anybody else experienced this? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Could it be box blight, a fungus that causes the stems to die back?

one of mine always gets broken bits where the blackbird goes in and out to her nest.

    Ah, you can forgive that!

I thought of box blight but the plants are otherwise healthy. Very green and lush, I thought that box blight made them turn brown? I did see my neighbours cat pounce on it this morning so maybe the blackbird theory has legs?!

Yes, a cat shaped hole it probably is. Any feathers floating around nearby?

Funny you should say that, there were a lot of feathers floating about last week................Also, the worst affected is planted next to some catmint.  I will keep my eyes peeled for further evidence.  Thank you both so much for your help.
