Mahogany plants

Does anyone know if you can get viable seeds or plants for mahogany trees in the UK? I wonder if they can be grown here? I keep sending off for seeds but as yet I haven't been able to get some that aren't too old

I think it's a  tree from the tropics. You'd need a very big heated GHimage

Nuts right the true mahogany will not grow in the UK.  However a tree in the mahogany family, Toona sinensis, will.  It can be quite fast growing.  Not sure where you would get seed mind.

You can get seeds from http://www.jungleseeds.co.uk/. I have one mahogany tree indoors that is nearly 7ft tall. It drops its leaves in the winter though.

  • Just back from South Africa and brought back a seed pod from a mahogany tree which contained 4 black and orange seeds, these I have planted on pots in greenhouse hoping they might grow.

The climate here i think may be far too cold,

Should they strike I will let you know.

    David.

Thank you repliers all. I've bought some more seeds from a UK source, with easy grow, in the title. I've followed the instructions to the letter but still nothing yet. I live in hope
