Unsucessful cucumbers

My cucumber plant ( suitable for growing in an un-heated greenhouse ) seemed to be growing well, flowers forming & little cucumbers appearing    but then the cucumber would shrivel up and drop off !!!! Can anyone tell me why this happened ?image

Should they be pollinated?  If 'yes' they aren't being.

  • maybe next time you could try pollinating by hand just to be sure.

It's not being overwatered is it?

Tracey it depends on which you are growing as to removing male flowers etc. Mine are all in the greenhouse ( their own) I find they like to be moist and  watered small amounts frequently but not soaked. They love warmth and a moist atmosphere, leave a can of water, or water the floor, or mist the air. Mine are shaded from direct sunlight. I feed once a week with tomato feed and they are doing great.

Mine are F1 hybrid Telegraph and you don't remove male flowers and a variety of lunchbox sized ones that are all female. They self pollinate, but when I'm in there I sometimes gently shake each plant. Or they get moved as I move leaves to water. They don't like the base of their stem wet, mound up some compost around it and water around the edges of the pot. Hope this helps.

p.s. Have you checked that there isn't a big cucumber hiding on the plant, sometimes they stop producing and small ones die if a monster isn't picked.

  • Thank you to everyone for their answers . i will bear these all in mind and HOPEFULLY I will have some good results !
