dead wisteria but possible
Hello, A while back i posted pictures of a 7 year old wisteria still dormant in July ..... you did all say it was probably dead and yes i agree with you all now 
I cut it back and it was all dry wood ............... But growing about 8 inches from the trunk of the dead wisteria is a new plant ...........i do actually remember it was there last year but thought nothing of it ............so now i have a dead wisteria and one coming on really well clibing up my arch ............I did a bit of research on the internet to find out what this was and it is possably a 'rootstock' ......................So my question is what is it ?? Shall i keep it to replace the dead one ?? When will it flower????

It depends whether the original was grafted. If so, the new shoot from the roots will be different. If it wasn't a grafted one, the new shoot will grow into an identical form. Either way, it will likely take a few years before it will flower again though - just keep up with the recommended way of pruning.
I know this may not help but I had a similar experience with one of my Wisteria but the new shoot eventually died too, about 2 seasons later. When I dug it out I found the roots had been attacked by Honey Fungus.
This happened to me too. I had a really big old wisteria with very scented double flowers. It died and when I found it's trunk was rotten I scraped it a bit and there was a huge larva inside. I thought that had killed it but now I think it was something else and that was a stag horn beetle larva that lives in rotten wood.
Anyway, new shoots started coming out of the ground. They grew quite quickly and within 2 or 3 years they had huge long single flowers, slightly scented. That must have been from the original root stock. I've trained it up the wall and over the balcony rail above and I'm very pleased I did. It's lovely and I dug up another suckering bit and planted it in another place up a post about 4 years ago and it has flowered too.
