Callistemon only has a few flowers

We have a fair sized callistemon but it has only produced about 4 flowers in all. The rest of the plant looks pretty healthy, lots of new growth at the ends of every shoot/branch, and from the abundance of old seed pods it looks as if it usually flowers a lot. So why not this year? Is it meant to be pruned? Should we prune the old seed pods off? Its such a shame as it would have been so pretty.

I have the exact same problem as you - i bought mine last year and did everything suggested on the label but few flowers this year - i can only think that i didn't fleece it over winter they need protection from the frost as its native climate is australia
