Please could someone let me know what this plant is.

I managed to get a couple of hours in the garden today, and found these in a few places.  Always forget what I've planted and so can't figure out if this is a weed or something I have put there on purpose, but I think more likely to be a weed.

    Does to me too. Pretty little wild flowers, but depends whether you want them or not.

    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    If they are the violets I had in my garden a couple of years ago they are not good news.

    They were pretty to start with but they formed such a dense mat of fibrous roots that  hand weeding became impossible. I just now dig them up whenever I spot them. They spread like wildfire.
