Agapanthus flowering....?!

I have just been for a wander round my garden to identify jobs that need doing and check up on my hellebores, and have found that my agapanthus is budding!

This is not something that I have experienced at this time of year before image

They are planted and well established in beds, so cant be brought under cover. Any idea how I can protect them from the upcoming frosts?

Many thanks.

I'd wrap them with bubble wrap then fleece them to give them the best protection you can. You make a tent type structure with 4 bamboo canes and then wrap around that securing with garden wire. Long range weather suggests markedly colder weather from late January so I'd get it done asap.

  • Thanks Dave, I was thinking along those lines. Is it usual for them to flower at this time of year do you know?

They certainly shouldn't be coming into bud now, the weather is causing havoc in some gardens I'm working in. There is colder weather on the cards so personally I'm concerned about the knock on effects in a few months. All you can do is protect what you have and hope for the best.
