Parsnips hollowed out

image

These were the last two parsnips dug from my allotment. They have been hollowed out from below leaving an outside skin and a central conical core. I've not seen this before.

We do have a rat and mole problem on the site, but this damage looks to be too precise for rats. I've looked at images of weevil damage an that looks to be quite different.

Any ideas?

Not ones for today's dinner then? Slugs, I'd say.

You could try putting them in the cigar box and if you are lucky grandad might smoke them after he's had a pint ir two.

Sorry, you'll not get much sense out of any of us today. Happy Christmas.image
