Problems with sweet peas
I grew sweet peas from seed this year. Not sure of the variety but they are a dark purple. The problem is I am not getting as many flowers as the mixed coloured ones l grew last year. they are in the exact same position. Also the leaves at the bottom of the plant are turning white. They also have not even grown that high. I water them every day during this warm weather. Anyone any suggestions how to rescue them?? I suspect it might be too late

try giving them a feed with a soluble fertiliser such as phostrogen
John some varieties just aren't as flowery! I grow Cupani which often doesn't germinate so well and doesn't produce as many blooms but I like it so I grow it
This year I grew Cathy - a creamy, heavily scented variety - as well, which has had identical treatment and has far more flowers. It's just the way it is. I use tomato food on mine. You will get a few pale dead leaves at the bottom especially with this hot weather. Just take them off.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I am growing Lord Nelson (part of Sarah Raven's Venetian Mix) and have had very varied results. Some flowers are on stems 10-12 inches long whilst others are barely 3 inches. I have also found that some plants are climbing well whilst others aren't very tall at all. They were all sown and planted out at the same time. Does anyone have any ideas what I might have done wrong? Overall I'm really pleased with the picked flowers, they are beautiful, especially since this is the first time I've had a garden with the right conditions for growing them.
