Ideas for shading plants please

Now that we, in the South of England, are encountering these very high temperatures has anybody any tips for the shading of plants ?

I was wondering if the use of fleece could be one ... although I'd have thought it would just raise the temperature of the plants inside.

There is a green shade netting used for greenhouses. You will have to make sure that air can still circulate underneath.

I too have wondered if a frame could be made and attach something to give the shade . Greenhouse shading sounds a good idea. Only thing for myself it would take loads for full borders -but individual shrubs / plants it could be worth trying . I will keep check on this one.

An old frame tent frame/ a gazeebo frame, easy /light to erect and dismantle. Thats if youv'e got space around to get it in. Green house netting would then drape over. Other wise a "Ray Mears" over night type shelter of a horizontal rope to 2 uprights (trees) than drape a ridge of old cotton sheet between them.! Q.E.D.

In Tenerife I saw grape vines growing on the ground protected by little fences made of reeds. Each reed was stuck into the ground by hand - a labour of love - but I suppose something similar could be achived by cutting up one of those rolls of reed screening into lengths, making sure that enough of the wire holding it togethernwas kept on each length. The fences would have to run at an angle to the path of the sun too, so maybe not for everyone!
