Allotment/Gardening Design Apps

I wondered if anyone would recommend any gardening design apps for me to use to plan out my allotment? I've been searching for a little while and all the free ones I can find are really very basic and generally are for designing gardens and not allotment plots - which should be easier. What are people using? What do they cost, if anything, or should I just stick to my ruler, notebook and pencil?
