    Possibly bearded iris rhizomes or something similar ...   ?

    They look a bit dark and wrong for bearded iris but I have no better suggestionimage

    Lots of them in a pot, but no one remembers putting them in the pot or what they are image Only one way to find out I guess ...

    Were they buried or lying flat on the surface.? The shoot looks a bit like Hedychium  but mine still have leaves and are dying down at the moment.

    What did the leaves and/or flowers look like?

    I think they could be Jerusalem artichokes. What do they smell like?
