Alliums with Agapanthus?

I have some allium 'Purple Sensation' which finished flowering about a month ago now.

I ma looking for a plant or plants that will take up the space during summer when the alliums have died off.

i do have a number of agapanthus given to me this year. Would these be ok to plant inbetween the alliums. I would like to be certain the alliums or agapanthus would not be constricted in any way.

Alternatively do you have any other perennial plant suggestions to plant with the alliums.

Hi Adam, I've got the same dilemma. My bed around the alliums is bare because 1) I don't want to distract from them even now their colour has gone and 2) I'm a little afraid to disturb the soil around them. I am thinking about ground level plants, which don't need to be planted close to the bulb or too deeply -  possibly thyme, oregano and other herbs. Good luck, I'm sure you will get some great ideas from other forumers.

I wouldn't plant the agapanthus too close to the alliums as agapanthus can be quite thuggish and have large root systems - I'm just revamping a raised bed so will nip out and take a couple of pics to show you just how invasive these roots can be.

I have just planted the white annual form of lavatera inbetween alliums and they sprung up within 48 hours as the weather has been so warm!

For the time being I will plant some annual cover.

I never realised the extent of the root system for the agapanthus!

I would plant a contrasting leaf and flower form which allows the alliums to show of ftheir tall spikes and purple flower balls followed by the seed heads.  I have alliums coming up through hardy geraniums, hostas and pulmonaria in different bits of the garden.  

They'd look great with geums too so that's the plan for next year.  I love alliums and nectaroscordums and add more each year.
