White Emergo Runner Beans

I am growing some White Emergo plants in a wigwam in a large plastic container.

They appear to be groing well but are a very light green in colour. I have also just noticed that some of the lower leaves have holes and others have small white "wiggly" trails with sopme very tiny beasties.

Can anyone help please? I am cutting off the leaves that are damaged but should the plants be sprayed with something?

I am attaching a photo of a leaf showing the trail and beastie.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi, I really don't think you have much to worry about.  The little beastie is too small to identify but is unlikely to do noticeable damage to your beans.  I'd leave the leaves on if I were you - the plant needs them if they're functioning ok, and yours are.

The leaves of white-flowered beans tend to be lighter in colour than those of beans that have red flowers, so that will probably explain the  colouration you were concerned about.

Runner beans are rarely attacked by anything much that will damage the crop, so you can relax a bit image

Remember that runner beans need lots of water, but  don't want to be swimmng in it.  As yours are in containers you'll need to keep a close eye on the soil and water them before it  dries out. And again, as yours are in containers, as soon as they start to flower I'd give a feed with something like tomato fertiliser once every three weeks or so.
