Miniature Fruit Trees

I am tempted by an offer of 5 miniature fruit trees (2 apple, 1 pear, 1 cherry & 1 plum) to be grown in pots and which will not exceed 1 metre in height. I have no experience of these and wonder how successful they are likely to be and what size of pot would be required and also if any special compost would be needed. Can anyone advise? Trouble with miniature fruit trees is the miniature crop. I have just eaten the entire crop off my sunburst cherry . Two year old in a 15inch pot. All one cherry of it. The other two cherry trees, the morello didn't flower this year. The stella set fruit but then they all shrivelled up , probably due to me forgetting to water. I had some apple trees in pots, but I put them all in the ground last year, they seem to be doing better.
I have an apricot in a 50cm pot which I planted last autumn. It was covered in blossoms, but unfortunately the lousy spring didn't bring any bees or other insects to pollinate them and I forgot to do it by hand, so only have 2 apricots. Hope to get more next year.
I think a 15" pot is way too small and not watering enough doesn't help either. Try replanting them in bigger pots in a mixture of John Innes 3 and some garden soil (mole heaps would be great if you have any nearby). I think you just have to give them time to establish themselves properly.
The squirrels eat all my apricots long before they get ripe.
Mmmm, that's a shame Fidget. I'm lucky, we only have red squirrels and they stay in the woods. Must be real pest in the UK, cute though they are!
