Uneven lawn

Pleae could I get some advice on the best and most effective way to 'level out ' my lawn. 

I had it laid about two years ago, and mow it regularly but even after all this time. it is still  lumpy and uneven.

I have considered hiring a  manual roller but wonder if it would be better to hire an electronic version.

A roller might work for small bumps and lumps, but if they are large then you may want to consider filling dips in with top soil, gradually, so your grass can slowing grow through it. Or lift the turf where the level is most affected and either skim the soil surface level or fill in with top soil and relay your turf. Quite a lot of effort but you can do it a bit at a time.

Do not use those lawn rollers that you fill with water to weigh them down - they do not work!

The old fashioned, but very heavy, metal ones do flatten the lawn but unless you know someone with one then they are difficult to find (and are normally rusty).

Unless the electric ones are pneumatic then I cannot see them working, not that I have seen one. You need weight to flatten compacted lawns.

Cutting the lawn and then removing excess soil or filling the dips with soil does work...I have had to resort to the same but you still get bare poatches where the lawn mower hits the high points and then you have uneven grass!

Would agree with DSean. Unless there's an underlying reason for these lumps and bumps, I'd fill the dips with topsoil and keep levelling it till it's uniform and merging with the rest of the lawn, and either let the grass gradually spread into it or sow some grass seed in the bare areas.

Perhaps it's not been correctly prepared to start with Labradouble?

Yes, Fairy girl I think I was duped by the company I paid...Very impressive initially, but alas, no follow up service !!

I will try filling with soil and see how it goes.
