Sunflower Assist

Hello everyone, I hope you're all well and enjoying the beautiful (finally!) weather. Hoping for some advice please. I bought some sunflowers over the weekend (they were already established but youngsters, the total height of them today is around 8 inches tall and that includes the beautiful heads). I've potted them for now, as I've never grown them before and wasn't too sure of myself and I needed to be able to move them if necessary. They're in a good compost, well drained and presently sitting in a beautifully sunny position but...... they seem to be ill! The heads are now looking very scruffy indeed and they seem to be curling up a little as it to die. The leaves look a little worse for wear too. They're well watered. Help please. Could they be in the wrong place (more shade) or am I watering too much? Any assistance gratefully received, I love these little guys and I want to see much more of their happy, smiling faces looking down on me! Thank you so much.

I think they need to be planted out in the garden.
Sorry, should have said that they are planted out in the garden, just potted for now and not planted into the ground,
ALSO they like alot of water
Give them a little time they'll need to acclimatize to your growing conditions, they'll also need some support if not dwart plants. If they have flower heads forming now though, they sound like dwarf one's and will be smiling up at you when in bloom

Not a question, just a passing comment. For some strange reason, sunflowers that I have sown never come to anything, but the ones the birds have spread around in winter grow beautifully!
Swiss Sue. How annoying that must be! Its madness isn't it. You try your best and nothing. But anything a bird manages to drop anywhere anytime will just get on and do its thing!
I have just read in my herb book sunflower seeds are good for chickens to make them lay more eggs.
Flowering Rose, I'm very slow in noticing your comment on here! I wish I could keep chickens, how lovely it must be to have your own eggs. No chance for me though. For one, not quite enough space for a coup and two, far, far too much wildlife including foxes!
