How to deal with my Chrysanthemum's.

BMLBML Posts: 151

I bought a few Chrysanthemum plants in pots this summer.  The pots were about 9" and the plants were bush like up to about two feet wide.  They have now finished flowering and the flowers are brown.  I would like to see if I can keep them alive through the winter so do I just trim the dead heads off or do I prune the plants down to about six inches or so high?

Yes reduce the growth down to about six inches, and put in a cold frame or if you have a glasshouse protect them there, new growth will appear in the spring, you could leave the plants in their pots but replace as much of the compost as possible, or strike cuttings from the new growth, they usually root well, to give you extra plants for next year.
