Can roses be maintenance pruned at anytime of the year or does this adversly affect them? I have a new standard rose and some the branches are going to start rubbing each other soon. Also I have new climbing rose which has a division that is not in the direct I want and needs to go.
Can I prune these out now or is it best waiting until next spring?

You might as well prune your climber now , but leave the standard to late in the year after flowering finishes. If you do any pruning in summer expect to lose some flowers, altho' in the long term scheme of things this is not particularly important. In either case don't wait to spring... do it before winter.
I'd watch that standard...branches rubbing against each other isn't A Good Thing. Maybe you could have a look along the stems for a bud which is going in the appropriate direction, and snip it back to that level to prevent damage.
Agree re climber, but also track along and look for bud that's facing the way you want it to grow. I grow a lot of roses, mainly climbers, and hack them back through the season as appropriate, but leave the major pruning till the dormant months.
I have just pruned my climbing rose"Iceberg" and will get another show of flowers before the end of summer.
Thanks for the info. I thought they were best pruned in spring just as the sap flow starts to increase. Are they best done then or in autumn as they go dormant? Thought the healing might be slower in the fully dormant period.
