couch grass

I have a lot of couch in my new lawn, I was digging it out but have small patches everywhere, I am now trying to pull it out as it has not had the chance to deep root.  I think it must be from seed when I dug the ground over. any advice would be helpful. many thanks.

When your new lawn is tough enough to withstand a good raking with a spring tine lawn rake, rake it over in different directions (at 90 degrees to each other) that will  raise the couch grass and you'll be able to mow it out - it can't withstand mowing if you give it that treatment each time.

Agree with Dove, you will need to be a bit patient,no quick fix,but you should get rid of it eventually.

Another thought, I have an electric lawn rake could I use that on a high setting.

As Verdun has just said, I'd go ahead now  Bluejan - but be gentle with it, just lift the grass, don't scarify the soil - the roots are still only  babies.  You'll soon get rid of that couch image

Thanks so much for advice tried it on my front lawn today could not believe how much couch was there, when I raked it it all stood up to get chopped off,  can you tell me how it works exactly, does it weaken the root system and eventually die. many thanks
