Two years ago we bought a Photinia Red Robin which was about four foot high and had two main stems. It is planted in good soil, in a fairly sheltered position; it put on new growth which was spindly and we pruned about 18 inches off the top. It has since put on new growth and it is still very spindly and we had to loosely tie it to some canes in the winter to stop the stems getting broken. Is this the case with this plant, or have we got a weak one. Can you suggest what we should do to make it grow stronger. At the moment it is not tied to itself or anything else. We did buy it from a very reliable nationwide garden centre, not mail order.
