Can anyone suggest why the leaves on my Winter floweriing Jasmine are dropping its leaves all the year round. It is in full flower at the moment but it is still shedding its leaves. It is a very old plant quite thick and bushy growing up the wall of my property.

Shrubs, whether deciduous or evergreen, will drop leaves now and again. It would only be an issue if there was something unusual about it in some way, like the whole lot dropping in July for instance. Then you'd take a closer look to see if there was an issue with disease or some other external type of damage  image

    They are nudiflorum.

  • Thank you Fairygirl and cornelly I wondered if it was to dry at the roots.I can,t see where the roots are in the ground as it is in a narrow piece of ground .

  • Well Hostafani I thought it would drop leaves when the flowers are dying off not when it is in full bloom and before it has come into flower  but being as people find my gardening problems funny I won,t ask anymore.I am trying to carry on the garden after my husband passed away, he was a keen gardener..

  • Bugsbunny - Hostafan wasn't being unkind - he's a nice chap - he just saw the funny side of Tetley's comment.

The full name of that jasmine is Jasminum nudiflorum - if you look at the 'nudiflorum' bit it explains that it flowers (florum) when the branches are bare (nudi).

Please don't feel offended - we're a friendly lot and we all started somewhere - perhaps the fact that we're so friendly makes us sometimes forget that new posters may feel a bit shy.

Welcome to the forum image  I hope we can help some more image
