Beetroot seedlings

I bought some beetroot seedlings cheaply this week but now realise it is not the time to plant them out (November). Will I just have to throw them away or could I bring them on in a cold greenhouse or in my cold frame.  If so - should I put them in large pots ?

Ditto. You won't get the warmth beetroot needs to prosper at this time of year.

...although if you do have a greenhouse or cold frame it might be worth a try - nothing to lose.

If you decide to grow some in the spring, I'd try Boltardy or Detroit Globe.

Thank you - I will try Bolthardy in the spring.

I have tried most types of beetroot and have had success with all of them. I am trying a new type [to me] called 'Saguina' next year. Dark red, sweet and apparently they can grow large without getting woody.

This year I grew Sanguina from Real Seeds, really good, tender, sweet, not earthy, and none of the early sowings bolted. Mine didn't grow large maybe 3" max.

I'd say that's an ideal maximum.  Bet they were yummy. image
