White Powder On Hardy Geraniums Stems.

I've got several hardy geraniums this year that don't look too happy.

They are not new plants, they are all at least a couple of years old.

If you look at the stems some many of them are covered in a white powder which you can scrape off with your finger nail.

I had this last year but it only affected one plant.

Any idea what this is and how to get rid?

i think that's mildew, if it looks bad I cut them back to start again

  • It's a good idea to cut back Hardy G's as the flower power drops off and you get a new set of healthy foliage. Some are more prone to mildew than others and for me it is the white Alba which is worst. Some say it is dryness which causes it.

Most of mine that are various G. pratense suffer in dry weather.
