Tree in a shady area

We have recently taken down a catalpa tree as it was too big and too close to the house. However it has opened up a big area which is now not very private from the neighbour. You can probably just see our neigbours house on the right and he has a balcony there. I have attached some photos as the area is quite close to the house and in the Winter is very shady, in Summer we have a little sun. We need something with year round foilage and over 2 metres. We have a hedge but our neigbour is very anal about the height, which obviously means we are not getting much privacy with a laurel bush at 6ft tall! Can anyone help please? We did contemplate a pergola but may be cheaper to replant trees and offer immediate screening.

Pyracantha grows quick, is evergreen and you get berries for the birds. Or eleagnus or choisya.

That looks a good option I think. Wasn't sure about eleagnus or choisya. Thanks both. Will see what we can find.

The tall growing Cotoneasters, C salicifolius and the C. "Watererii" group are fast growing, not too tall [and will put up with hard pruning if needed] and evergreen except with persistent cold east winds.
