Malus - expert advice on choosing

its tree ordering time again, and i am compiling a list.

I have a nice space thats a bit of a focal point on arriving at the house and i would like a stunning all rounder of a tree.

I have decided on crabapple, and definitely a DARK pink flower. There is a bewildering number available.  Even in limiting myself to what my local shop can order, there are lots.

I like Royalty  but there seem to be concerns about disease resistance. Also like rudolph, and directeur moerland (?) and well...lots more. maybe they all look good on the internet?

Any advice?  Also, i was initially thinking about a close grouping of 3, but have read crabapples do not like anything close.

  • I like Malus x zumi 'Golden Hornet'.  It's on my list to order this year - I've moved and got a new garden so lots of excuses to buy new plants image.  It has lovely yellow fruits in autumn which it keeps most of the winter so you get the added bonus of winter colour.

  • Oh - just noticed you said you wanted dark pink flowers - this one has white - oops, didnt read the question properly image

Still, 2 pink ones and a white one would look lovely image

    Profusion looks lovely.

Im all done with white - i got prunus tai haku for that. Do all trees need good space? Its common to plant birch in close groups.  Hope my birch are OK!

I think mine are 1m apart in 3's.  Look OK though.  Looking at the space for the malus i think 3 is greedy and 1 would be best.
