Hi, does anyone know if there are effective anti cat plants? I am trying to stop cats from coming into my garden and going for the birds, they are not using it as a toilet but they sit in the garden and scare off the birds. I have a sonic scarer but it doesn't seem to be scaring them off!!

orange peel should keep cats off plants or spray them with water is allowed i think
i am a cat owner but they still bother me when they sit on plant pots
we have two bird tables and the birds tend to visit in the morning when the cats are not around birds get to know when to avoid cats too
the chase and kill instinct is so strong in cats that I doubt if there's a plant that would put them off.

Currry plants work well my garden, they don't like the smell. When it has rained they smell even more of curry. Someone has also suggested on the forum to use Jeyes Fluid. I thought I would give it a go so I have sprayed it around where the cats come in and where they seem to go in the garden. Its been a couple of weeks since I started this and the last 3 or 4 days I haven't seen a cat in my garden. Coincident? I don't know, but I like to think it is working. The trial continues.

Have you had the cat repeller long? I have several around the garden and they work a treat.
Have read, that when installing a sonic cat repellent, the cat/s will sometimes confront it and try to ignore it for a while, but it gets to much for them in the end.
I wonder if your sonic cat scarer is in the right place at the right height ect.
The cat scarer is about 6-8" off the ground but I think they have to walk past it for it to go off, they are not pooing in the garden they are just sitting in it or in my gazebo and I think their presence is putting off the birds. I don't really like the smell of curry myself so I will give that one a miss but thanks anyway.
Have a google for a water scarecrow. It attaches to an outside tap and has a sensor so any passing cat triggers a wpray of water. they hate getting wet and go away. You just need to move the sensor regularly so they don't work it out.
I have always had cats and birds. The trick is to hang peanut feeders and fat balls out of cat pouncing range and to put ground feed down where there is no shrub or fence for cats to hide and pounce from. Having shrubs for the small birds to hide in also helps in case a sparrow hawk comes hunting.
Works here. In the last 10 years I've had no small birds caught by my cats, no matter how they try.
