Are there any Pond experts here?

My new Koi have not eaten since i put them in last Sunday.

Since then iv Cleared the pond by installing my UV bulb but they still just hide under an Iris plant.

Are they just not used to there new home yet or is there somthing more serious?

I would not worry about the fish, they take time to settle in to their new home. Feed them with floating pellets which they will eventually find and realise they are for eating.

Hi Rich- bigolob's right- give them a bit of time to settle. It's fairly traumatic for them moving to a new home - just like us really! image

    Thanks for the feedback.

It makes sence as they have come from a pro dealer where the tanks were perfect and my pond is only just clearing.

Funny because the 2 times ive moved house i really enjoyed it........

I'd say that was quite a normal reaction - new environment with a big shadow hovering above - yeh, scary stuff if your fish !!

It's all a matter of trust, these fish will be a bit scared......and messing about with the pond will not have helped. Throw a little food in and move away from the pond but still near enough to see whats going on. You'll probably find they'll eat it - this might ease your mind a little.

If you have time sit by the pond side, so the fish can get to know you and recognise you as a friend. Feeding at a set time helps, I've found.

The moving bit's easy Rich - it's dealing with the utilities etc that's a pain!!

Yes- the koi are going into a totaly different environment from the one they're used to. I'm sure they'll be fine. We bought 3 at last house and as we didn't want to put them in the bigger pond with the other fish we put them into a smaller pond  and netted them to stop herons getting them. They were very flighty for ages - one in particular hid most of the time!
