Pet Friendly Way to Remove Weeds from Dark Damp Area

Hi

In my garden I've got an area where there was once a few trees nearby and I want to remove the weeds from the soil bed in a cat friendly way.

I've tried pulling the weeds out but they keep coming back.

What ideas do people recommend to remove them and keep them gone?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I'm afraid it's what weeds do James!

You could pull them out and plant up the area, or wait till spring and  sow grass seed to increase the area you have. If it was me, I'd make a decent border and plant it up with something you like image

You can use weedkiller to clear them - just keep the cat in till the weedkiller's dried.

It'll take five minutes to pull those up and bin them - then as Hosta says get a nice hoe - one like this

, every time you see tiny little green shoots 'tickle' the soil with the hoe - a couple of minutes work once a week (every week in the spring, summer and autumn) - that'll stop them growing and developing seeds and spreading everywhere image

Hoe before you need to hoe and you'll never need to hoe.

    Same goes for mow....

My first boss told me , when I asked when was the best time to hoe weeds:

    " just before they germinate"

That was 35 years ago and I've never forgotten it

  • Hi Thanks for all the great advice.

I think the problem I've had is not planting anything to replace the weeds so they always come back.

Therefore I think I'll get some low maintenance ever green shrubs, does this sound like a good idea?

    Thanks
