Breeding slugs in my compost

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to prevent slugs from breeding in my compost?  I suppose it should be warmer, to cook any eggs, but with the weather we have.... and i can't locate it in a warmer spot.  Slugs do have their uses, breaking down organic matter, but i think i'm spreading their eggs everywhere when i use the compost.  this is a bit tragic when planting out new plants with lashings of compost!
