Norwegian Maple

I planted a young Norwegian Maple about three years ago and always had lovely bronze foliage.  However, this year I noticed it was covered in ants and eventually the leaves went very dry and white and fell off.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated - do you think it was the ants farming the aphids or a fungal infestation?? What can I do to prevent this next year?  Thanks image

    It's the aphids that do the damage, you can't do much unless you spray next yearimage

    OK, thanks Logan, I thought that might be the case ..... I will spray next year and perhaps look at putting down some ant killer as well.
