My heart is in my mouth every time my alliums come into flower because they are so blown about.  They always seems to survive and look gorgeous.  This year, because of the high winds I've given in to temptation and staked them.  Do you usually stake yours - how - and are they OK?

Very windy here but never staked an allium. They're upright out there now after some pretty naff weather. But tomorrow is due to be even windier so we shall see.

Have you a photo of your staked alliums and are you pleased with the effect?

  • I have some in pots in a windy garden... so far so good. I would not grow them if they needed staking. I love them but not to that extent. Nature does not stake anything, only man when we breed some freak varieties.

ellieD, I live in exposed site in the Fens and have never staked an allium; delphiniums get some support. I cannot find out which area you are in, so cannot advise further.image
