I have lots of asparagus coming up, but some of it is very fat and woody, while other spears are much slimmer. Why are they so different and what can we do to improve the quality?
Most people prefer the fat spears, but cut them sooner and trim off the woody stem.
The very slim ones, or sprue are good for soup.
You pay much more for the fat ones in the shops
The problem is they come up very thick to start with. They dont apear normal and then grow fat.Thanks
Baggies, they are supposed to be fat! A fat asparagus is a good asparagus.
