Please does anyone know why roses flourish but don`t make any buds. They are perfectly healthy plants, with glossy leaves etc, and the climber is a good height but as yet has no buds. HELP.

    Horribly cold and dark year so far?  If things get warmer and brighter they will probably bud and flower.  Would you do nice things if you had to live out there? Me neither!!

    This happened to mine as well, when I asked a rose-breeding nursery where I bought some roses once, they told me it was a bug which gets in just as the first shoots are sprouting and to spray them at the first sign of shoots.

    Climbing roses produce many more flowering shoots if the main branches are trained as near to the horizontal as possible - what is your climber growing against?  Can you lower it  so that it puts out vertical side shoots?

    Why would the leaves on a climbing rose be very much smaller than they should be ,last year thet were big and fleshy ???
