How do I encourage vigorous roots?

I would like to know if there is a fertilizer on the market which helps vigorous root growth on young plants ( ie. double/treble the size of plug plants).

I have been buying plug plants from different suppliers and some plants are ok and have good root systemand grow on almost immediately, others after replanting seem to be very slow at developing a good root system.

I've tried additional gritty sand int the compost mix without success.Any ideas would be very welcome.  (main plants in question are Fuschias)

Do I understand this site correctly please?

Has someone reported this genuine question of mine to the moderator, and if so WHY?

What is wrong with my question please?

What are you talking about?image -your question is thereimage

And no there isnt some magic fertilizer despite the claims-they all do a similar job-you have to wait-not sure exactly what you are expecting-if you buy correct compost and feed correctly a plant will grow-but only to its limitations.

Some people find microrhizomes to be helpful in promoting good root development.

As to your fear that you've been moderated - many posters have found that they've 'ignored' themselves. This is a function whihc is accessible by hovering the mouse over a poster's avatar, then two options are available 'message' (to send a private message) or 'ignore' which hides all that poster's conrtibutions - very useful if htere is a troll stalking the board.

You can check whether you've ignored yourself by going to your profile (top right of screen) and find forum settings, near the bottom is a list of ignored posters, and if you're there you can remove yourself from that setting. We can see your posts fine.

There is a form of fungus used, mycorrhzae , it comes in a coarse powder form,  it is usually used for trees and more permanaent planting than annuals or small plug plants would suggest.   Plugs will grow on well if kept well watered and fed, not all plants develop large root systems, especially annuals, as they only need to last a short time.  Larger perennial plants will develop larger roots ans they grow and mature. f

Fuschia plants vary in their rate of growth, depending whether they are hardy and this will last for a long time, and can be planted outdoors when hardened off - these may well benefit from mycorrhzae, mnay others are grown in this country as annuals for hanging baskets and other summer displays.  Normal watering and fertilsing, with for example a seeweed fertiliser, will encourage good strong growth for their season.   If you want to grow standards you willl need to do special pruning for that, there are  web sites and books devoted to that art.

Never made out why and who gets reported for what - the whole thing is a mystery!  Meantime we will go on talking and trying to help each other with our questions and entertaining each other with garden talk.  Enjoy that.
