Sentimental Tool
Not a thread about me (!), but about about any tools (or other things in the garden you have) that have sentimental value.
Before we got married in the early 90's, my great-aunt decided that she couldn't look after her cottage and garden anymore, and decided to live in a OAP's home. She was 94. She had a beautiful garden, split to look look lovely and also feed here. I was given a rake that she had used throughout her life there, to use in the garden when I got married.
Nearly twenty years later, I still use that same rake. I have no idea how old the rake is. The head has 'Vaughens' cast on it and wooden handle is smooth wood. It's been used so much that the handle has thinned where it slides through your hands when raking. I often think that my great-aunt used it for at least sixty years, so the rake probably knows more about gardening than me!
Aunty Alice's rake is part of my family history and it feels good to use it. I hope my sons will feel the same.

My fork was my Mum's. She's been gone now for nearly 34 years and I never remember her using anything different. Still have one remaining spade of my Dad's equally as old and a galvanised watering can. Fortunately, my eldest son treasures anything that was my Dad's so has taken all his old tools, etc, which I had kept for 26 years and they are now sitting in his shed. My Dad took great care of tools so I have no idea how old they all are. Found a few more the other day when having a clear out. Feel sorry for his wife.
I still use my Dads garden spade and fork. I can always remember him using them even when I was a child. He has been gone 24 years now and I have no idea how old they are but I treasure them and miss him dreadfully.

Grandad,s old spade, when he died he was 104 and dug his own garden in his late nineties.I felt he was helping me when I started gardening ,and would never part with it.
