Unknown Insect. also Plant ID

Hi All, I have 2 questions  i would like to ask,

Firstly can anyone identify this insect for me as i have never seen one before.  The colour looked  luminous green/brown, also it has really long antennas. It landed on my laundry basket yesterday and stayed there quite some time so i got  my camera and took this photo so that someone could identify it for me.

Secondly, I purchased a multi pack of shrubs, unfortunately for me there were no identity labels with them. Can someone help me to identify these shrubs please.

The insect is one of the Shield Bugs possibly the Birch shield bug. There are lots of different kinds though.

The first two plants are euonymus.

  • Bug looks like a 'stink bug' to me.

  • I'm inclined to think that shrub no. 3 is a daphne of some sort...although also has resonances of euonymus!  The 4th shrub is definitely a conifer, but one of the softer, less spiny ones, so not a juniper.  Maybe a thuja??

Enlarged 3 doesn't look like a daphne. It looks like something tender that is outside my sphereimage

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Thank you all for your replies,  I have never heard of the shield/stink bug, I am not very good with creepy crawlies,  i cringe at the thought of them but at the same time i would not harm them,  i certainly  could not pick one up. Just the thought of trying to pick one up makes me shudder.  sadly i am not as brave as you 1Runnybeak1 image
