Fast growing small tree for very small garden

Hi, I have a  very small windy garden and I would like to plant a tree that grows to about 12' to 15'  It will have to be planted very  close to a fence, the soil is clay.any one got any ideas?

    not really a good idea to plant any tree so close to a fence especially one which you want to grow so large,perhaps you should re-think.

    How close to your house or drains, or those of other people?


    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    ....in my very small windy garden on the south coast, subject to wind from all directions, on heavy clay, I planted Sorbus vilmorinii about 1 foot from a 6 foot fence.... it's the only tree I know - 12-15 foot - that would fit the purpose.  Some years it's better than others, as summer gales can strip some of the leaves...

    however, fast growing, and small, are something of a contradiction in terms... but have a look at that one if you're interested...image

    Some crab apples would fit the bill, although some would be too tall. There are also dwarf cherries.
