Compost

I took some lovely well rotted compost out of my bin last week to plant my seed potatoes in and it was full of ants! Any suggestions please as to whether its usable compost? E. G. can I treat it with ant powder......AJB

I'd use the compost, but I wouldnt want ant powder anywhere near any vegetable plants.

Ants nesting in/invading compost bins are a sign that the compost is too dry- try watering the contents. J.

Stir it up and water it - they'll leave in search for somewhere warm, dry and undisturbed image
