Runner/Dwarf Beans
in Fruit & veg
My runner and dwarf beans that I planted in pots in my conservatory recently are now about 4-5 inches high. I would like to harden them off in a mini -greenhouse. Would it be ok to put them out now? Minimum night time temperatures in my area have been forecast at between 10 to 6C.
Thankyou

Yes, they will soon run awaay and grow well - it's the wind I find can scorch them at this time so the little GH is a good idea for now.
got mine undercover as well .good showers of rain here . stuff growing in front of my eyes . but windy
Thank you for your answers, I will put them out tomorrow.
My runner beans are still in pots indoors(unheated shed) and are about 12" tall now (from pot to leaf) and leggy.
Can they be planted deep like tomatoes (so as to get a good rooting)?
Thanks
Ok,
I could take a chance and plant tomorrow and if they fail I will do so some backups.
Temp here in the NW near Preston is: between 4 and 6 degrees during night.
Is that too cold?
Not ideal-perhaps best bet is not to plant but leave in pots in a cold frame or sheltered spot to harden off and plant in 10 days or so
You will know better for next year
If I leave for 10 days will they not be even more leggy
Regards
It depends alot on how much light they are getting, if you put them in a sheltered place outdoors they will get all the light there is and so should not increase in legginess. If they are very leggy they may droop, you could pinch out the tips to encourage bushing up, but even if they do succumb, there is still time to sow more. Maybe do it a bit later next time?
