Purple climber ID please

Hi folks. I hope someone can help me. I've just spotted an interesting climber in someone's garden whilst walking the dog. It's not something I've seen before but looked very attractive in the sunshine. Any ideas?

Cheers

Chocloate Vine or more properly Akebia quinata.

  • Yes I agree with Berghill.  My sister has one. (It does,nt seem to smell much of chocolate though!)

Ah great thanks!! I might have to get one. It would be nice to have my own crop of Dairy Milks in the Summer. image

I have one. Why doesn't mine flower?

I have Akebia quinata and also the cream form - the flowers are a bit smaller but just as exquisite image

Nutcutlet - because of where it is planted our Akebia quinata gets chopped back quite ruthlessly after it has flowered.

Now that is exquisite. Does it produce  runners which root as they go, like the red version?

I love that white one Pam. I'll give mine a haircut this year and see if it gets flowers next
